Booking Engine

The software widget embedded on a hotel's website that allows guests to search availability, select room types, and complete reservations directly. The booking engine processes payments and sends confirmation emails, functioning as the hotel's online storefront.

Why it matters: The booking engine is the gateway to direct bookings. Its conversion rate — the percentage of website visitors who complete a booking — directly impacts direct revenue. A slow, confusing, or poorly designed booking engine drives guests to OTAs instead.
