Real-Time Pricing Engine
A software component that continuously evaluates demand signals, competitive rates, and booking pace to adjust room prices in real time — multiple times per day or even per request — rather than relying on manual daily rate changes.
Why it matters: More frequent evaluation can surface changes sooner, but action quality depends on source latency, demand qualification, controls, conversion, capacity, and operator review. Speed alone does not prove a rate increase or incremental revenue.
Worked example: Count the changes, not the checks. Re-price a stay date 96 times a day and, 90 days out, the inputs move perhaps twice a week: 96 evaluations produce 96 identical prices. Three days out, the same date sees a 12-room group release, two competitor drops and a pickup of 9 rooms in a single afternoon — that is where re-evaluating hourly changes the answer. Point the frequency at the window where inputs actually move.
Common mistake: Wiring the engine straight to a scraped competitor feed with no staleness check. A comp rate captured 40 minutes ago from a sold-out hotel is not a price you can undercut — it is a price nobody can book. Require a freshness stamp and an availability flag on every input, and hold the rate when either is missing.
